Through the boat trip, you will learn a lot about the grand canal itself and Tongzhou - the important eastern part of Beijing. After boating the canal, you will visit the 700 year old Randengfo Tower (Burns the lamp Buddha stupa) and Tongzhou Museum. The Burns the lamp Buddha stupa is located nort part the Tongzhou District, west of the canal with a history over 1300 years. It is the symbol of Tongzhou. The stupa has 8 angles 13 floors, the high is about 49 meters. Then move on to Tongzhou Museum. Tongzhou Museum is a local district-level museum. The display shows the long history of Tongzhou from neolithic age to the Republic of China. It has the time span from Western Han to Qing Dynasty as the key. All the relics and pictures vividly demonstrate the ties between Tongzhou and water transportation and the important position of Tongzhou in Chinas water transportation history.
After a Chinese lunch, you will be arranged to visit the Gaobeidian Village. It is a thousand-year-old village, situated next to Tonghui River - a part of the man-made canal connecting the Tongzhou and downtown Beijing in the past. In the ancient time, Gaobeidian actually became a prosperous wharf serving the Chinese capital. The name of Tonghui River was made by Kublai Khan who found the solution to the problem of carrying foods collected in Tongzhou to Dadu (now central Beijing) by building the Tonghui River. Then visit Gaobeidian 1500 meter-long Classic Furniture Street which holds over 300 traditional classic furniture workshops, seeing people how to make classic furniture.
After that, go on visiting Gaobeidian Chinese Folk Custom Park with Hu-tong layout, along which are 208 old-fashioned stores, the biggest folk style handicraft market in Beijing. After visiting Gaobeidian Village, you will be transferred back to your hotel in the city proper of Beijing. |
