Day 1 Chengxian Street, Confucius Temple and Guozijian (Imperial College), Lama Temple, pedicab, Chinese lunch prepared by his family, former residence of Soong Ching Ling, former residence of Mr.Mei Lanfang Pick up from your hotel around 9:00am. First arrive at Chengxian Street. walk along along the shady
Chengxian Street, the east-west roadway, starting about 700 years ago with its structures built in line with ancient Chinese customs,once one of the Chinas most important humanist centers.- the Confucius Temple and Guozijian (Imperial College). Then again take your personal vehicle to the Drum Tower dating from 1420, ascending the big Drum tower and having birds eye view of the surrounding communities of hutongs and siheyuan.
After lunch, visit Lama Temple, also called the Yonghe Lamasery, or Yonghegong. It is the most handsome and impressive Buddhist temple in the city. Lama Temple was built in the 33 Qing Kangxi year (1694) and it is now the largest and best-preserved Lamasery of Yellwo Sect in Beijing. It was the residence of Emperor Yongzheng before his ascending to the throne. Built initially in 1694 during the Qing Dynasty, this building was the residence of Emperor Yongzheng when he was just a prince. However, in 1744 the Qing Dynasty formally changed the status of the dwelling to that of a lamasery, and so Yonghe Lamasery became the national centre of Lama administration. The tour ends around 4:00pm.
Then taking the pedicab and get to an ordinary family courtyard home for the Chinese lunch prepared by his family. After lunch, drive to the former residence of Soong Ching Ling(1890-1981), once a garden of one of the Qing Dynasty princess mansions. She was late Honorary Chairman of the Peoples Republic of China, be known as "the Mother of China". After visiting the former residence of Soong Ching Ling, you will be arranged to visit former residence of Mr.Mei Lanfang (1894 - 1961),the best known Beijing Opera master ever, the greatest artist the world, founder of one of the three greatest acting methods created by Shakespeare Stanislavsky and Meilanfang. After the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.
Day 2 Shichahai bar area, Boat Cruising, pedicab, Prince Gongs Mansion, Chinese lunch, Drum Tower, Yandai Xiejie ( Tobacco Pipe Lean Street) Pick up from your hotel around 9:00am. First drive to Shichahai bar area. Shichahai area is a centraly preserved zone showcasing the life of old Beijing. It is comprised of three-lake area: Qian Hai Lake, meaning Front Sea; Hou Hai Lake, meaning Back Sea and Xi Hai Lake, meaning Western Sea. Lots of bars are clustered in the Shichahai area or along the Shichahai Lakeshore. Then take a a boat cruising on the Shichahai Lake for 40 minutes. The local boat company uses the boats which are 7 meters in length and 1.7 meters in width. It is made in line with the old Chinese Traditional painting dating to the Song Dynasty 800 years ago. All the boats are paddled by the boatmen who wear in yellow vests and bamboo hats. You also have the chance to get a close view of the local people’s daily life on the banks while enjoying the sweet tune from the Chinese stringed and woodwind instruments played by the ladies on the bow of boats.
After the boat tour, take a pedicab to visit the most famous hutongs keeping the original layout. Then move on to Prince Gongs Mansion. It was once the private living place of He Shen, a favorite minister of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it was first constructed in 1777. In 1851, the mansion was offered to Prince Gong by Emperor Xianfeng (1851-1862), hence the name. Now it is the most well preserved mansion in Beijing. You have a typical Chinese lunch at an ordinary family courtyard home.
After lunch, go to the Drum Tower dating from 1420, ascending the big Drum tower and having birds eye view of the surrounding communities of hutongs and siheyuan, and walk to the famous Yandai Xiejie ( Tobacco Pipe Lean Street), a quaint 800-year-old hutong located directly north of Yinding Bridge between Qianhai and Houhai and the south of the Drum Tower, used to be well-known for sellers of long-stemmed pipes, hence the name. Then walk to the the Silver Ingot Bridge ( Yinding Bridge ), a narrow channel joining Qianhai Lake and the Houhai Lake, the hub of Shichhai area with surrounding quiet hutongs. Then proceed to take a rickshaw to visit the most famous hutongs keeping the original layout and the trendy Shichahai bar street. |
